Disney and Apple announce first roll out countries for their new SVOD service

Disney will first launch their Disney Plus service in The Netherlands, Canada and USA on November 12th. Priced EUR – USD 6,99 per month. EUR 12,99 per month when bundled in the USA with ESPN and Hulu. At launch, Disney+ will be available on Apple TV (tvOS); Android mobile devices; Android TV; Chromecast; Desktop web browsers; iPad (iPadOS); iPhone (iOS); PlayStation 4; Roku streaming players; Roku TV and Xbox One. Content on the service will include movies Avengers: Endgame, Aladdin and made for TV series Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Apple announced that they will also start in November. On all the Apple products, but as well at TV app on Samsung TV. Content budget USD 6 billion per year. This is about 25% of Disney’s entire 2019 content budget. Looks like Netflix will spend this year around USD 11 billion on content.

RTL has announced that they have 1,2 mio subsribers on their local VOD services in the Netherlands and in Germany. Their content budget is around EUR 400 mio.

So we expect to see more people cutting their pay tv services with the operators in favor taken more than one streaming service. For example we see a good growth in the UK (as BARB recently announced). In USA a household have on average 3.4 service, paying USD 8.53 per month on average for each service.
